about
With Insect Joy, LowHero.DLL pushes forward with an electro rock sound, heavy in bass guitar, electronic noise, and punchy rhythms similar to the sound acheived with the previous single - Container.

Chalker describes his approach with the recording of Insect Joy:

"Everything is pretty much right there in your face with not a lot of subtlety and the dynamics are achieved more through changes in basic compositional elements rather than through any real sensitivity or even sensibility. It is a gritty, forceful, post-punk-influenced electro rock track that aspires to be something more like an arena rock hit with its big chorus and inspired transitions."

And the theme of the track:

"This track explores the relationship between humans and insects as insects have this terribly short lifespan in most cases and their lives seem to us to almost fully consist of working, eating, fighting, and reproducing. Humans like to think we're so much bigger than insects not just in size but in importance but our lives really aren't that different if you take a giant step back and see it from the outside. Perceived length of lifespan is all relative. We like to feel like our lives are pretty long but then we wax emotional about how fleeting and short it is. You see these lamentations in poetry, film, and song. Importance isn't just relative it is a projection - a fabrication without any foundation.

In the grand scheme, is the life of a human really that much more special than that of an insect's? We're all just here for a bit, we do our thing then we die. Humans try to find some amount of joy during that time. With this song, I like to imagine that insects also have moments of joy. Insect joy is not the same as human joy but I think it is joy nonetheless."
lyrics
I don't question why
I just colonize and metamorphosize
I'm feeling good in my exoskeleton

Man oh man, look at me fly!
Aimless, I've got no trajectory
About as happy as an insect can be

I feel ...
I feel insect joy

Joy for all the trillions
as we fly into oblivion
Tattered wings on wind we fly
higher to the brightest light
Here for all of you to hate
Alive, so alive for only a few days
yet we get some joy before we die

So, such is life
Moving triple time
toward the finish line
where nothing's left but an exoskeleton

I feel ...
I feel insect joy
